I have been to Burma many times and have visited most of the tribes This is an informative book Photos are beautiful. If you are interested in Burma Myanamar and like coffee table books I d get it well I did but otherwise I wouldn t really bother It s not that well produced and while printed in 1997 I d have guessed it was a generation earlier basically it lacks quality and style and the cover belies the inside It s expensive too. A lot of useful information about these tribes of Burma I can recomment it to people that are interested in the subject. Fabulous images Among all other tribal photo books this book is the best study for lost culture of Burma Myanmar. Vraiment un magnifique livre sur les ethnies de Birmaniede superbes photos d couvrir et puis n h sitez pas le commander c est un petit tr sor. unbelievably this is a book I ve read twice now I had bought it for the costume details and individual details of one tribe from another but the text is so interestingly and personally human I couldn t put it down both times I picked it up.A problem I seem to have whenever I open a good book The photography is awesome and the warmth of the people who allowed outsiders in made me feel like there was hope for mankind Of course then I turned the news on and that s why I had to read the book a second time I m not turning on the news any. This is an amazing book, with amazing photography, and amazing subject matter This ceremonial dress has amazing details and vivid colors The photographs of these people will never be duplicated.Aung San Suu Kyi was the distinguished guest of Richard s at one of his photo exhibitions in Yangon, and used these photos to discuss unification of Burma The gorgeous reproduction of these Hill Tribe people is a testament to Richard s cultural sensitivity and admiration of these vanishing people A GREAT work I ve been fortunate enough to visit Burma Myanmar a few times and that s why I bought this book It s a fantastic coffee table book with great pictures etc I can t say anything anything other than I love it though It gives basic information and a lot of the tribes are present in Laos, Thailand and China etc so if you ve been to those countries it could be of interest to you too Word of warning I spent years trying to get a copy of this book at a reasonable price as I d seen it previously, whether you d be able to find a decent, inexpensive copy yourself is doubtful. After traveling through Myanmar Burma you really see the different tribal groups in the differnt regions Vanishing Tribes of Burma gives you a great insight as to how many groups there actually are and how most of them originated It is a great book to research before you go and after you get home if you are lucky enough to get the chance to travel there If you are planning a trip to Myanmar you can use this as a cultural travel guide of the people you will meet in the different states you may visit You may find yourself as interested in the cultures as well as the historic sites such as Bagan, Shwedegon or Mt Popa Lonnie McCaskil Expedition Cargo
