This is the first book about practical psychology for instructors of recreational scuba divers well, as far as I know This is really quite amazing, because teaching diving is all about psychology Dive instructors who can apply some easy psychological insights to what they do every day havesuccess in teaching, and also have a much easier time doing their job I am glad you want to be one of them This book will make you a better instructor, and very quickly as well It is only a short book, easy to read, and very practical But maybe you first want to know a bit about me I am Marc, and I have worked as a dive instructor and PADI staff instructor for over ten years with a few breaks in between I have written a book about the theory of scuba diving, and made an online course about that too I have trained hundreds of divers, and led many instructor training programs I am not someone telling you something from behind a desk I have got my stuff wet extensively I also have a PhD in psychology Not the kind of psychology where you help people with mental problems, but the kind of psychology where you research how people are different and how you can work with that in things such as personnel selection or education I left universities a long time ago to live at the sea and go diving, but of course I have never forgotten what I had learned in all those years This book is the result of those two lives, I suppose.I told you this in the hope you will trust that I know what I am talking about And what will we be talking about This book has two parts Part one is about recognising stress and dealing with stress by playing with control and social support Then we will look how you can deal with mistakes, learn from them, and get feedback on your performance in a good way Next up is working with differences between your students, and with cultural differences The last chapter is about some cool psychological techniques preparing for skills by using Mental Imagery and some elementary memory tricks Part 2 is completely practical, and goes deeply into your every day work applying the techniques of part 1 on land, like meeting and greeting students, briefing skills, or getting them into their gear in confined water, like the psychology of demonstrations, evaluating skill performance, or dealing with students who go up Finally, we look at your work in the ocean diving from a boat, the decent, or leading dives with open water students. This short book will make you a much better dive instructor with almost no effort That is really true You will be amazed what a difference it will make There is a Facebook support group for this book at on
