Freddie Mercury was a private man who when he was interviewed gave a good as he got, this is many interviews given over the years now all put into print and making a entertaining and nice insight into the man who was one of the greatest singers of all time, never boring and when you get to read this wonderful book you will understand Fabulous.

Enjoyed reading this book, although have been a Queen fan since 1974 so knew most of what the book contained, however, there was some new material that I read Really enjoyed reading this book, only wish Freddie had remained with Mary Austin, but he lived his life to the full and Mary was always his best friend Can t be doing with Adam Lambert with the two old men May and Taylor still thrashing it out without Freddie, that betrayal and only comes from friends and family John Deacon has morals Great read, high recommend this seller.

This book is absolutely brilliant it s as if your sat asking the question to Freddie and the seeing him speak, I read the first book years ago but this new updated version is even better it s a must for fans no matter how long you have known Queen

This is the closest any Queen fan will ever get to a Freddie Mercury autobiography, it s been meticulously researched buy the Greg Brooks and Simon Lupton Thank you gentlemen for giving us an insight to Freddie

This book came up on Kindle as a highly recommended download to grab So I did, having been a Queen band fan since they first came onto the scene very much in my early years and now at 72 years, i must admit that I did know that this book existed. So, for me that has most of the copies of all the Queen vinyls, tapes, CD s, DVD s etc etc, including the now Paul Rogers revival Queen Band, including from the other various tribute bands, this was a really great book to get my hands onSo, for me this was the next chapter in our Freddie potential closure BUT for us he will live on in the music of Queen powered by those that were intimate with him as a band Long live Freddie, you and your band are still the best.

I am at a loss for words This book has no journey It is lots of different interviews that repeat, have no connection and we have no idea of the questions being asked Several times I have read how they argued a lot, sorted it out, were meticulous etc But the book doesn t really tell me anything Cannot read any So disappointed The 5 star reviews baffle me.

Updated and expanded version of the 2006 book This book is the closest thing to an autobiography that you are going to get Freddie rarely gave in depth interviews and this book is made up from quotes throughout his career Full of funny, heartbreaking and revealing comments Highly recommended.

He died prematurely and has left a huge gap in the entertainment world However, the book seemed to mostly contain his answers to the same or similar questions over the years And his answers were much the same or similar I was rather disappointed.

I ve always loved Freddie Mercury Queen, but never bought his autobiography till now especially after seeing the film I must admit it took me a while to get into the book it wasn t what I thought it was going to be It was about how his music came about with very very little of his life and upbringing Personally I found it very repetitive in parts, but as the author says it is Freddie s words.I personally found no comparison to film so couldn t help wondering which was the truest version Still, its all down to personal interpretation don t just take my word for it

The authors must have thought it a great idea to string a load of seemingly unedited Freddie interviews together and put them in a book They were wrong The result is repetitive, tedious and boring, and contains not one anecdote It s like being cornered at a party by an amphetamine fuelled bore going on and on about themselves I m sure Freddie was a lot interesting than this.

This a MUST for all Freddie Mercury fans A legend, that will live on, but one, who will never be able to put pen to paper and produce HIS auto biography This is the next best thing Now, remember, this isn t like reading a biography on Freddie nor is it HIM telling us his life so far, talking about his illness etc It is a biography like no other It is Freddies words, through quotesmaking up sense to each chapter and year You don t get to discover anything new about him, nor does he tell a story As his interviews where elusive and this is a rare collaboration of Freddie, in his own wordsas the title says His quotes build up a peek for the reader into his life, however, he never once discusses his lover from 1984, Jim Hutton, who has sadly passed away Nor does he even discuss HIV and the fact that he knew he was dying Unfortunately no one will know what he thought I would however recommend Freddie Me by Jim Hutton, which was written at least 15 years ago That is intimate for the reader and very poignant and tearful.

Just to be clear, this book is not a new biography of Freddie I think we have seen enough of those What Greg and Simon have done is meticulously put together quotes from Freddie throughout his career and shaped them into cohesive chapters, so the book reads almost like an autobiography I didn t find it easy reading you savour every moment as it were, and I have taken my time to get through the book What I did experience was that I was actually hearing Freddie saying the words as I read them, which was bizarre, delightful and heart rending all at the same time I think the guys have done an excellent job of capturing Freddie s essence in this clever book it s the closest any of us are going to get to the fascinating, mercurial man that he was.

  14. says:

Great book was given a copy of the printed version to pass on once I read to I had read to someone else so I purchased mine for my kindle to read when ever I wanted. The book seems as though Freddie is talk8ng to you about his childhood and his life as a child He talked his relationship with those in the band and Mary it was so lovely to read.

Freddie Mercury: A Life, In His Own Words (English Edition) Freddie Mercury A Life, In His Own Words is the nearest thing to Freddies autobiography as it is possible to achieve A moving, witty, often irreverent collection of quotes or interview transcript from the man himself, covering an extraordinary life, meticulously edited together by Queens long time archivists, with a Foreword by Freddie s mum An essential read not just for fans of Queen and their iconic frontman, but anyone intrigued to know about one of musics most endearing and enduring performers Freddie rarely talked about himself to others, and so the relatively few interviews he did agree to carefully compiled for this book, and some of them unpublished until now provide an intriguing insight into a man who outwardly exuded confidence and arrogance, but behind the public perception, spent periods alone and searching for happiness The truth was that Freddie was painfully shy and uncomfortable in the company of anyone who might intrude upon his famous royal family of close friends and invited guests The book covers Freddies origins and history, many and various subjects in between, and of course covers the fascinating journey of Queen, all from his unique perspective Spurred on by their almost uncontrollable ambitious and forthright front man, Queen succeeded in becoming one of the biggest bands on the planet The story describes how on many occasions the group almost broke up, but was always kept together by their shared love of breaching musical boundaries Freddies own personal story is one of pursuing a dream, dealing with wealth and fame, looking back and having no regrets, reflecting on getting old, his legacy, and death A man determined to succeed to the point of willing to be frivolous and preposterous to win over an audience I love the feeling of it Its greater than sex But as the pages turn, we see a Freddie Mercury gradually changing the priorities in his life to one sedate and necessarily changed by the cloud of the HIV AIDS virus beginning to shadow the gay community For a man who seldom spoke, in A Life, In His Own Words, Freddie says it all There are times when I wake up and I think, My God I wish I wasnt Freddie Mercury today Inchapters, pages and nearly , words andyears in the making Freddie covers it all, and then some And he does it, of course, in his own inimitable, unpredictable, invariably funny, often poignant, and always entertaining way I love the fact that I make people happy, in any form Even if its just half an hour of their lives, if I can make them feel lucky or make them feel good, or bring a smile to a sour face, that to me is worthwhile
