What a fantastic book after reading this book I feel that David Jason is an inspiration to us all It proves that when you are aiming for a goal, you have to keep working at it in order to achieve your target He knew where he wanted to be and what he wanted to do and never gave up His life has had exceptionally good, comical times but he has also suffered the tragic loss of friends and colleagues and the very sad loss of his first wife He has been lucky enough to find new love and now has the love of his wife and daughter The photos at the end are lovelyparticularly the one of him holding baby SophieLove that picture

David Jason has long been one of my favourite actors, from Porridge, Open All Hours to Only Fools Horses the irresistible characterisation Of Jack Frost in a Touch of Frost I have long wanted to learn the craft of scriptwriting the deeper into this book I have got, the the mood takes me With no formal training it is incredible that this genius actor broke through to be one of the very best in the business I am still reading it on Kindle, almost 90% read, but as one of the best autobiographies I have read I have just ordered the paperback for keeps as well as the follow up book Thanks David a brilliant read so inspirational

David Jason is an unassuming man, genial and not without his confidence issues He comes across, however, as a man who I could happily chat with over tea, and is very generous in his summation of others. His acting career took a while to blossom but boy, what a body of work How he has made us laugh over those years And now his autobiography does the same. The most alarming thing is how many times he has almost died and or visited A E Its is very lucky for him and us that he has survived such injuries Still, being a very physical comic actor, maybe it comes with the job.David doesn t write too much about his private life, the focus being on his profession output, and I have to say that is refreshing He does describe briefly about his partner Myfanwy Talog s illness and death, but we move swiftly on Now happily living with his wife Gill and daughter Sophie, he tries to keep all that away from public eye In an age when we know what Katie Price had for breakfast, I don t believe this to be a bad thing.Overall, a good read The last 15 years was dealt with very swiftly, but other than that, it was a very entertaining and funny book.

Having just completed reading the Kindle version of David Jason My Life, I feel that I have spent an enjoyable last few days in the company of the man himself and what a fascinating character he turned out to be Consequently I now have a good understanding of what he is about and how he became the renowned professional comedy actor that he eventually did.The behind the scenes decision makings in relation to the shows, with which he was involved, are particularly interesting. So too are David Jason s references to characters, with whom he interacted at various points in his career, most of whom I can recall myself, as they relate to a period in television and theatrical history with which I am familiar Other readers less familiar with these times may not find this aspect of the book quite so interesting There are some amusing anecdotes many of which relate to practical jokes that the author had been instrumental in setting up during his working life Others refer to occasions when things did not go according to plan and reveal a man who is able to laugh at himself in times of adversity, whilst philosophically regarding the unfortunate incidents as learning experiences. In contrast there are also moments of sadness in the author s life, which are described with sensitivity and compassion and serve to allow the reader to empathise with him and gain a closer understanding of what kind of person he really is.Personally I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would not hesitate in recommending it to others.

David starts by telling us about his childhood and family, his school life and home and his introduction to amateur dramatics all of which helps us to imagine what shaped him as an actor He describes in detail the efforts, doubts and trials he put himself through to be secure acting parts and the lengths he was prepared to go to to achieve his goal The stories of his early professional life are both poignant and humorous with many tidbits about well known comedians and actors of the 70 s and 80 s He particularly writes a lot about his great respect for Ronnie Barker, the Guv nor There is plenty of enjoyable comment on Only Fools, Darling Buds, Open All Hours and Frost and the success they bought him leading to a BAFTA and finally a Knighthood, David s writing describes his amazing life in TV, film and theatre as well as his personal journey Towards the end we hear his story of meeting with wife Gill, the subsequent birth of Sophie Mae and their marriage which he tells with great appreciation A really absorbing autobiography of a person who has been with us for so many years on the screen.

Wonderful read into the life of a surprisingly normal man Outside of his amazing talent of course, but his route into acting and comedy is an inspiration, and came out the other side of this book with an even greater respect and appreciation for this man Definitely worth a read

Wonderful story with many anecdotes I was worried that Only Fools was going to appear in volume 2 as it only appeared three quarters of the way through I had not realised the sequence of each of his shows sit coms More of an actors story as the personal and family life elements are not significant within this book maybe in another But, what a thoroughly nice guy who was late into TV, but worked with the best and subsequently became the king of his craft and he has not finished yet

This is a good read It is so interesting to learn about how all of David Jason s roles came about I was absorbed by the story of his career There is very little about his personal life which is fair enough he is clearly a private person but it means his character comes over as a bit cold There is a lot of name dropping which is irritating after a bit but doesn t spoil the general enjoyment of the book The best part is learning about Only Fools and Horses and how it came to be made etc I recommend this book if you like David Jason and enjoy biographies but don t expect to really know the man after reading it as it doesn t go deep.

We have not had a television for 30 years and at the time did not miss it We now have a smart TVs, very slim but other than the 2200 news watch live tv seldom We collect dvd s and streaming so having found Frost I decided I wanted to know about the person The autobiography supplied the need in A very readable form and will lead to further purchases Detailed, humorous and very readable.

I ve always liked David Jason, he s an incredibly talented actor who s been able to perform a multitude of different roles But I didn t realise how many until I read this book. This must be one of the best autobiographies I ve read It s funny, engaging, detailed and tells the story of David s life, from childhood all the way up to recent events It s also an eye opener, I didn t realise how many theatre productions he was in, nor the path taken to become an actor One thing I liked in particular is that he doesn t have a bad word to say about anyone and it s really impressive the number of famous actors he s worked with I don t want to write too much as it ll spoil the story.Highly engaging, witty and hard to put down once you ve started A must read for both fans and budding actors alike.Strongly recommended

I take my hat of to David Jason for giving us a really interesting autobiography full of facts and fun He doesn t overdo the Only Fools and Horses recollections which for me, were and still are due to endless repeats the funniest comedy programmes ever broadcast as he has done so much other work that all deserve a mention I found I could hardly put the book down until it was finished and by then I felt I really knew and had befriended a gentleman who has given the world so much Long may he carry on acting and I m sure he has it in him to write another book concentrating on all his well known parts for which we he is instantly recognisable Being almost the same age and having been brought up near to London s West End I regret I never saw him in No Sex Please We re British.

Never too certain about these types of books often a lot of personal stuff that s interesting to the writer not the reader Hats off to David Jason though he really nailed it right from the very first page he had your interest and held it page by page I only bought it because I was chatting with someone who had been given it as a present and was reading it Bought mine on Kindle and it can often take me a few weeks to read a book but this one was unstoppable I had to read it and it took me 5 days with a few times checking back on other stories in there that linked up A talented man who had a dream followed it and made a success of it much to the enjoyment of millions who have watched him in his many characters.
